with the guidance of Ms. Rillie and Ms. Evans were successful in receiving a grant from SpeakUp Ontario.

They proposed that ESL students new to Canada and Western Tech receive a Welcome Package and Orientation.  When a student arrives at the school they are given an orientation to school rules, resources and procedures, then a tour and finally the presentation of the backpack.  The welcome  backpack contains some basic school supplies.

The Boys Leadership Group is proud to present the new Special Education Wall Mural. It is located outside the Special Education office, room 210. The boys were involved in many interesting activities semester one and the painting of the wall was a great way to wrap things up. Special shout outs go to Jovan Watson and Ezquil Morals for coordinating the big vision of the mural. Here is to another successful Special Education Boys Leadership Group in 2009.

Success Stories: Polar Bears dip for a Great Cause

Western Tech

On Wednesday, March 10th, Students from the Western Technical Commercial School, grades nine to twelve jumped into the freezing waters down at Lake Ontario. Now you may be wondering why they would do such a thing, the answer is simple, to raise money for charity. This year, the Western Students of Mr. Hobbs’ World Issues class along with Ms. Kahn’s Leadership Class voted on a charity that they would support, they ended up choosing Free the Children. Along with Free the Children, Western hopes to raise $8,500 in order to build a school in Kenya. So far, with all of their fundraising efforts combined, Western has managed to raise about $8,000. With just a little more fundraising to go, Western is sure to share the gift of education with children overseas in no time at all.
